DEANNA Breaks up with JESSE

Check out Jesse’s emotional YouTube video about the breakup

Kirkland's Jason Mesnick spills about "The Bachelor"

Local Jason Mesnick, of Kirkland, is the star of the next "The Bachelor," which premieres Monday on ABC. In an interview, he talks about being engaged; the breakup of Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas and snowboarder Jesse Csincsak; being the Bachelor and his son Ty.

By Nicole Tsong
Seattle Times staff reporter

When Jason Mesnick, of Kirkland, acts like his life is normal, he goes out to eat in Belltown, takes his 3-year-old, Ty, to the zoo or the golf course and does not answer questions about the breakup of Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas and Jesse Csincsak.
But as ABC's newest Bachelor — a fan favorite after Pappas rejected him for snowboarder Csincsak in "The Bachelorette" finale — he's spending a lot of time telling people he's "shocked" about their split. Oh, and he's engaged and in love. (To whom, we don't know: Mesnick has finished filming the show, but can't reveal his final pick until the finale, which should air in March or April.)

In other real news, Mesnick eats his eggs scrambled and laughs at himself when asked to tilt his head and look into the camera for a picture. He didn't think to unlist his address before going on "The Bachelorette," and came home to thousands of letters and people waiting outside his house to offer him "opportunities."
With "The Bachelor" set to premiere Monday on ABC with a two-hour special starting at 8 p.m., Mesnick will have to get used to the new normal.
Mesnick, 32, who grew up in the area and graduated from the University of Washington, sat down for breakfast at Trellis in Kirkland to talk about the show shortly after filming "The Bachelor" finale.
Q: Most dramatic moment ever: Jesse's video about his split from DeAnna. What did you think?
A: I just heard through everybody else. I just can't believe it. I was completely shocked. Ask anybody in my regular world. I would say, 'Yeah, they're going to get married and they're going to invite me to the wedding, too.' I truly, truly believed it.
Q: How did the experience on the "Bachelor" compare to falling for DeAnna on "The Bachelorette"?
A: Everything happens for a reason. I wouldn't trade my experience with my ex-wife for anything; I wouldn't trade my experience with DeAnna for anything. But this, this is forever stuff. And it blows my experience on "The Bachelorette" away. DeAnna was right, and I can thank her for not picking me, because I found the right person for me.
Q: What kind of girl did you want to meet?
A: The person who has that spark of life, the person that really enjoys getting to know people. I started realizing through my experience last time they also had to have their own experience done in life, whether that's going through a real single phase and dating a lot of people and traveling a lot or partying a lot. My life has more responsibility than just a regular bachelor.
Q: Did you have hesitations about becoming the Bachelor?
A: It wasn't an easy yes. When I went on ["The Bachelorette"], I really made sure my son was going to be OK. I checked with the child therapist, I checked with the pediatrician. They said, 'He's going to be fine. He's 3 ½ years old, their sense of time is a little bit different from ours anyway.' It was still hard [this time] because I didn't want to be away from him. I thought about it for several weeks, and it made sense. If they're going to go out across the country for 25 amazing girls that I'm looking for, asking me what kind of qualities are you looking for, what kind of interests, how could it not work?
Q: Except the Bachelor doesn't have the best success record. None of the 12 Bachelors so far has married his final pick — although two Bachelor couples are reportedly still together. You're Bachelor No. 13. How will it be different for you?
A: It starts with the person who's the Bachelor or Bachelorette. They are the only one who knows the true answer if they're ready for a serious relationship. I knew exactly what I'm looking for.
Q: Do you have a game plan for the next three months when you have to keep the relationship a secret and she is watching you on dates?
A: There are probably reasons why it hasn't worked out and it may have something to do with it how you approach what's going to happen during airing and immediately after. I want to make sure whatever people did that worked, I want to take pieces of that, and whatever didn't work, I want to throw those away. This has to work, and that's why I did it.
Q: Can you really fall in love in such a short time-frame, on television?
A: Everything moves quicker. The things you talk about on your first date or second date are things you might not talk about until your first or second month. You get to know people quickly. That's how you can fall in love faster, too, I think.
Q: What does Ty think about your new fiancée?
A: Ty had a great time with both of them. It was just the last two. There's no way I wanted to introduce him to a group of 25 or 8 or 6. I knew I couldn't fully give myself to somebody in my heart until I saw him with them, saw how he interacted with them and how they interacted with them. It's something his mom and I talked about a lot.
Q: How much does Ty know about the show?
A: Ty knows about the TV guys. Everybody's great with him. He's got this whole group of friends, some are audio people, some are producers, some of them are camera guys. I think he just thinks I have a goofy group of friends.
Q: Does his mom have him while you're filming?
A: She travels a lot more for work, so when I'm gone it's either her parents, who live here, or my mom and my brothers, who live here. It's the crew.
Q: Have you heard about DeAnna's new Lifetime show helping brides plan their weddings? It premieres on the same day as "The Bachelor."
A: I just heard about it. (Jokingly) DeAnna and I are linked forever. She's got a great personality. I'll watch it.
Q: In more Bachelor gossip, did you know
A: A grandma in Montana? No. Is it his grandma?
Q: It's a random grandma who likes Jesse.
A: I like the grandma fan. That's hilarious.
Q: Are you planning to stay in Seattle?
A: I'm staying in Seattle without a doubt. I would never take my son away from his mom, and she would never take him away from me. That's the thing Ty does for me, he completely grounds me.
Q: Is your fiancée moving here?
A: If she doesn't live here. It's a big world, right? If she doesn't live here, she will definitely end up here.

‘The Bachelor’s’ Jason Mesnick: ‘I’m engaged!’

‘I found exactly what I was hoping for,’ he says about being on the show
Wed., Dec. 10, 2008
By Monica Rizzo

The new season of “The Bachelor” doesn’t begin airing until Jan. 5, but Jason Mesnick tells PEOPLE exclusively that he did find love on ABC’s reality dating series.
“I’m engaged!” Mesnick says. “I found exactly what I was hoping for, what I was looking for. I’m completely in love.”
Fans will be excited for the 32-year-old Seattle single dad, whose marriage proposal to DeAnna Pappas was thwarted in July on the season finale of “The Bachelorette.” Instead, Pappas chose professional snowboarder Jesse Csincsak

“I really did fall in love with DeAnna,” he says, adding that when he heard she and Csincsak split in November, “I was shocked. I thought they were going to make it.”
An outpouring of support from fans and family helped convince the divorced Mesnick to take another chance at finding love in front of the cameras.
“I don’t want to be by myself,” Mesnick says. “I’m ready for a relationship and a family.”
That family includes Ty, Mesnick’s 3-year-old son from his first marriage. Mesnick says that the woman of his dreams has to understand that falling in love with him also means connecting with Ty.
“I was not looking for a mom,” he says. “I was looking for a partner for me and a mentor and a friend to Ty.”
Mission accomplished: Mesnick says he’s still in awe of how his life has changed in the past year. “I just really believed this can happen to me,” he says, smiling. “I cannot believe it’s this great!”

Family Lawyer: Jett Travolta May Have Died in Father's Arms

. . . this is so sad
By Us Magazine
January 3, 2009, 7:29 pm PST

John Travolta, Kelly Preston and their children Jett and Ella Bleu, leave an airport in Rome.Us Magazine John Travolta's lawyers -- who are close family friends -- reveal to Usmagazine.com that Jett may have died in his father's arms Friday. "Yesterday was the worst day of [John's] life," Travolta's lawyer and confidant, Michael McDermott, and Michael Ossi, the family's attorney, tell Us in a phone interview (during which they asked all quotes to be jointly attributed).

Us: How is John doing?

Ossi and McDermott: "John is distraught. He is trying to understand and reconcile this. He is seeking an explanation so that this makes sense to him. And his loved ones are trying to provide that to him.

"Yesterday was the worst day of his life. Today is probably equally as bad, and if not, it's the second worst day of his life.

"John is recognizing the outpouring of support he has got from both the U.S. and the world. He can feel the love and he says it makes him stronger and hopefully it allows him to reconcile.

"He is undergoing the pain any father would if they lost his son. Generally a son buries his father, and John thought that would be the way it would go with Jett, not the other way around.

"He is in shock. He is emotionally distraught. He is going through many different feelings of disbelief and anger. It's going to take a while for him to feel good again. This is the most traumatic thing that has ever happened to him and he needs to go through a process of healing. John and Kelly are suffering total misery. They were so close to their son. This is hard to accept.

"He had set a vacation for his employees and friends. Forty-nine adults and their children were coming here [to the Bahamas] from Jan. 2nd to 4th. We were all so excited to spend some days with John. We were on the plane and we had no idea, and then we landed and we found out. Every year he holds a party for friends and employees and this year he had the idea to fly us all to his condo. We were planning to hang out on the beach, go for boat rides and spend time with the family.

Us: Have John and Kelly spent time with anyone since everyone arrived?

Ossi and McDermott: "John and Kelly have been pretty much locked away.

"We are staying here until John leaves. The autopsy should be on Monday.

Us: How is Jett's 8-year-old sister, Ella Bleu, taking it?

Ossi and McDermott: "John broke the news to Ella. She is heartbroken. She is in disbelief, but it is starting to sink in. She has been asking where her brother is. She was so close to Jett. The whole family were so close. They went everywhere together. If John made a movie, they were all there with him.

Us: It's been reported that Jett was left alone for several hours before being discovered. Can you clarify the timeline?

Ossi and McDermott: "Jett was not left alone. He had a nanny present at all times. The nanny was sleeping close to Jett's room. There was a baby monitor, a chime on the door so it was known when Jett was going in and out. He was completely supervised. The nanny found him.

Us: Is it true that Jett died in John's arms?

Ossi and McDermott: "Jett may have still been alive when John administered CPR, and then the EMT took over. Jett was pronounced dead at the hospital. I like to believe John had a chance to say goodbye. He may have died in his dad's arms. I am not certain."

Us: It's been said Jett had a history of seizures. How often did he have them?

Ossi and McDermott: "I am not confident to talk about that. I know he had a history, which of course warranted the extra attention."

Us: You obviously knew Jett well. What was his personality like?

Ossi and McDermott: "He was a wonderful boy. He had physical limitations, but when he looked in his dad's eyes, the love was tangible. When he grabbed onto his dad, he did not want to let him go."

Celebrating Christmas

My husband and I celebrated another wonderful Christmas day with his parents, aunt and uncle, our sons and daughter-in-law. A few words to sum up my feelings at this moment are excitement, gratitude, joy and exhaustion.

Joy
My son and daughter-in-law came to the house Christmas morning and they made to order every one's breakfast. This was followed by my adult babies opening their stocking stuffers. We exchanged gifts and afterwards all agreed that we could use a good nap.

The kids' grandparents and aunt/uncle joined us for Christmas dinner. It was very nice. Along with discovering a great new wine (enjoyed before, during and after dinner), we ate prime rib, a delicious mashed potato dish and sauteed asparagus with garlic and lemon. As Rachel Ray would say, everything was YUM-O!

Oh, note to self: If hosting, do not drink new awesome tasting white wine while trying to prepare dinner for guests. GULP

Mom's Famous Cherry Cheesecake.
Gratitude
That my family is healthy and happy. This blessing cannot be wrapped in a box but certainly is embraced in my heart.

Excitement
Upholding tradition, WE PLAYED SCRABBLE!!!

A big welcome to the player table was extended to Aunt Joanie. Aunt Joanie is an incredible woman; savvy, bright, poised, talented (artist), humble and gracious. But who would have thunk that Aunt Joanie is a Scrabble contender. GAME ON!

Aunt Joanie throwing out words like "vixen" and Mom bringing as she usually does, her game to the table. We had fun!

The tree survived the cat and dog. Notice the bottom portion of the tree is basically bare. Safety, Safety, Safety!!!

... Jacob Marley, Ebenezer Scrooge and his clerk Bob Cratchit Each year Dickens Village houses are displayed on the mantle. The crocheted Christmas stockings made by my husband's late grandmother are treasured.

My first attempt at making my own fresh pine garland. OMG! It is so easy. Is it just me or does anyone else see the orbs in this picture? Ugh!

Exhaustion
I am pooped.

Little Girl Christmas Memories

Recently I was asked the question "When you were little, what was the best Christmas gift you have EVER received?” In haste, I think I responded "ice skates". But in retrospect I would have answered this question very differently and would have said that I have three very distinct memories of special wonderment when I was a child . . .

Tubsy 1967 : We called her Tubsy Wubsy. She was named because she kicked and splashed like a baby when you placed her in water. She came with a plastic pink tub but I do not remember playing with her anywhere but in the bathroom in the bathtub. Smart thinking Mom!!!

My Dancerina Doll - 1968 Mattel : Not that I knew this, but this doll was the envy of all little girls. Nevertheless she danced and twirled into my heart. A ballerina doll with beautiful blond hair with a knob in her crown that you pulled up or pushed down to make her spin or step. The best part of all was that she really danced. Her dress was a bright pink tutu with pink ballet slippers and she would spin and twirl with the timing of a true ballerina. I thought she was the most beautiful thing in the world and wish I had had the wherewithal to have kept her.

The most awesome and most amazing gift that I received was:

My Schwinn Fair Lady Bike -1969: Starting in the fall before Christmas of '69, I would ask my Dad to take walks with me downtown to the bike store. (Now it is some sort of Vitamin shop in Milford, NJ). In the store front window was the most beautiful, unbelievably gorgeous and COOLEST Schwinn Fair Lady. It was painted white with pink lettering. The banana seat was also white and had pink flowers on it and the handle bars held a white wicker basket with rose bud flowers edging the top.

Our walks downtown continued and I remained persistent. I would explain my case with dire desperation each and every time we passed that bike in the window. It was EXACTLY the bike that I REALLY REALLY wanted, had to have, absolutely needed and possibly, perhaps, please, please please, could Santa bring to me for Christmas. See it had to be that bike. Not the olive green one in the background but the white bike with pink lettering. I think I believed this bike was the only one of it's kind in existence. I remember asking my Dad -what if Santa could not get to it in time to give to me because the bike was sold? My Dad always responded saying that he was not sure what would happen and I better remember to be good because Santa was watching.

Christmas morning, I remember in front of the tree was the most magnificent thing that could ever be possible! It was the white with pink lettering Schwinn bike. I was dumbstruck; shocked!!! In my wildest dreams . . . ! There was no equal to this bike and receiving it will remain a very special memory to me.

Oh, as a side note: my sister got the olive green bike. LOL!

All my love and thanks Mom and Dad.

May you find love, joy and happiness this holiday season. Merry Christmas!

Remember When??? Growing up in Milford, NJ

To my retro aged friends (ha!) and fellow Milfordians . . .

Remember when we only had only CBS, NBC and ABC channels on the TV? If you lived on the hill you could get reception for PBS.

Remember games like Red Light Green Light, Hide and Seek, Mother May I, Hopscotch, good ole three person Jump Rope and neighborhood kids getting together for play Kick the Can?

Remember the real Hula Hoops with the sound/action rolling bead thingy inside?

Remember the forever gone Jimmy's Custard Stand? Dad would take us to Jimmy's in our pj's and slippers with our long brushed out wet hair for ice cream because we were good that day.

Remember Tang? Why did we like Tang? Because the astronauts did! Like duh!!!

I remember Saturday chores assigned to the three of us (all girls) on a rotation basis. The laborious tasks were dusting, washing the kitchen floor or cleaning the bathroom. This 1/2 hr. our parents asked of us felt like an eternity!

I remember leaving the house around 10am and not coming back until the town church bells rang at 6pm (they still ring), which meant time for dinner. And my mother never worried where I was.

I remember sundresses and hair scarves handmade by my mom, long hair in pigtails tied with thick yarn ribbon, flip flops from the downtown 5&10, and my first two piece bathing suit from the Sears catalogue!

Then there were the wardrobe necessities: red, white and blue knee high socks, hip hugger pants, hot pants, mini skits and maxi skirts.

I remember my mom, not school, taught me how to sew!

I remember the elementary school's playgrounds. All three of them were black macadam. Was there a skinned knee here and there? I guess. Did a kid named Jimmy fall off the monkey bars onto his head. I think so. But I don't remember a line of parents waiting to see the school principal about it. You knew not to play on the monkey bars in such a way that you would fall on your head. AND you were still allowed to hang upside down on the monkey bars after Jimmy fell on his head.

As a child, I did not think that I needed or wanted for anything. You lived with the security of knowing that you were loved and cared for and everything else that came your way was thought of as very very special.

LOLCATS - My Cat is so Now!

My Kitty is Famous. He Has Arrived!
Last summer we rescued a litter of kittens. They were hiding under one of the kid's deserted cars that was parked on the far side of the barn. Thankfully we were successful in placing three of them in nice homes with the exception of one. He was the runt of the litter; a scrappy little thing when we brought him home. This kitten was so malnourished that his little heiny backside bones located before his tail stuck way out. But with lots of love and some good viddles, he transformed into a healthy, lovey, nice kittie.

I really didn't want a cat. Really!!! But now he is part of the family. We named him Lexi, then changed it to Sparky. The energy spent on his name in and of itself should have been an indicator that we were going to become completely attached to this little critter.
MY LITTLE COUNTRY SPARKY-KITTIE After viewing a few funky pictures of my cat, my cousin had suggested that I submit one or two of these pics to lolcats.com.
Well . . . I did. . . . .
Below is a picture of the cat and our new puppy cuddling. They are great friends however you wouldn't think so from the expression on the cat's face. The caption is a little fresh but it does make me giggle.

My little Sparky made the internet. LOLCATS link to above - http://www.lolcats.com/view/26326/

Cat, Dog and a Crunchy Play Tube Thingy From Walmart

The dog and cat play for hours each day. The video clip below shows a part of their daily routine. The cat play tube came from Walmart and crunches when the cat walks through it. This is the best $8.97 I have spent. Please look past son's crusty kept room. Ugh!

Traditions, Traditions, Traditions

We had a really nice Thanksgiving at my son & daughter in law's house.
~
Traditions remained such as the necessary green bean casserole, candid yams, pumpkin and apple pies and forgotten deviled eggs in the refrigerator.
~
TOP SECRET APPLE PIE RECIPE
Following a recipe from Betty Crocker, I made my first apple pie when I was 12 yrs. old . From there, I always helped my mom with the rolling of the pie crust. My secret apple pie recipe was created after meeting with both of my husband's grandmothers asking them to show me how they make their pies.
~
Two deep dish apple pies ready for transit.

THE BIRD
Upon arrival, the turkey was coming out of the oven to get ready for the master carver.
~
Ah, the roast tasted great. My son still loves to eat the skin like his late grandmother.
~
SCRABBLE
If there is a noun, ick, and something could be icky, then there is yick, cause there is yicky, right???
Definition of yicky
as per unwords.com :
(yĭk'ē)
1. (adj.) Anything that is disgusting, repulsive. Sometimes considered onomatopoeic describing small popping air releases when scooping up some form of repulsive food or other goop.
Origins: From English yucky, disgusting and icky, a disagreeable stickiness.
Example: That food is yicky. I'm not eating it
~
Playing the game of Scrabble is and has been a family tradition on Thanksgiving day for a very long time. My daughter in law does not like to play but stepped up to the plate to pinch hit for her mother who, due to player injuires, couldn't finish the game. Trish, we are very proud of you!!!
~
A big congratulations to our new Scrabble tourney champion Rachel. The offical scorecard (recycled backside of envelope) will be kept in the box as a reminder for next year. I have a feeling game won't see the light of day until then.
~
See Rachel's constant left hand action on the tiles? Very impressive player. I was in awe of her techique. On different note/letter, was I going to try the word girth or grit? Yeah yeah, light weight, I know.

Yes, Yick is a word! I use it all the time. But according to the officials in the room, NO, Yick is not a word but no one challenged it 'til too late into the game. Oh well.

PUPPIES
Paige was a lovely hostess but continues to try to establish her domainance at her house. Girl dog vs. girl dog thing. Oh, Gidget made some poor choices on the carpet and this was announced during dinner. Ugh! With all the excitement, I think there was too much activity going on.
~
Aww! Look at the two loads after eating turkey. What a sweet but pooped Paigey Girl! Yes the human is smiling on the inside. Turn that smile upside down honey!

The Secret Scrolls - The Truth about Gratitude

A Secret Scrolls message from Rhonda ByrneCreator of The Secret

The greatest thief of human happiness and abundance is ungratefulness. Any lack in our lives - whether in money, health, or relationships - is simply the evidence of a lack of gratitude. If you focus on lack you are not being grateful, and that will bring more lack into your life. Yet the simple state of radiating gratitude summons everything to you.
No matter who you are or where you are, you can change your life with gratitude, but you must feel it with your whole heart and radiate it from every cell. Gratitude is not a mental exercise, and in fact, if you simply use your mind for gratitude it will have little or no power. True gratitude comes from your heart! You must think gratitude through your heart, speak gratitude through your heart, and feel it intensely in your heart.
Then practice gratitude relentlessly. As you practice gratitude you will attract more thoughts and feelings of gratitude. In a short time your entire being will be saturated with it, and you will experience a happiness that is beyond what you can imagine. This is what is ahead for you when you choose gratitude as your way of life. And if you can really live in this highest state of gratitude, you will never have to ask for anything. Everything you want will be given to you before you even ask, because gratitude is the magnetic substance that opens every single door in the Universe.
This Thursday is Thanksgiving in the United States. To celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to share an excerpt with you from The Secret Daily Teachings, which is being released in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia on December 9th. This excerpt presents an easy way to start using gratitude and integrate it into your life by making every Thursday "Thank You Thursday." As you "Thank your way through every Thursday" you will open the most powerful receiving channel within you.

From The Secret Daily Teachings - Thank You Thursday
"Today is Thank You Thursday. Today and every Thursday is your day to say and feel "Thank you" in as many ways as you can.Write a list of all the people and events you want to give thanks for. Return thanks today to those who have done things for you. As you walk say "Thank you" in your mind with each step you take. As you drive, make each time you stop your cue to say "Thank you." At various times in the day, think and feel "Thank you" inside you seven times in a row. Look for every opportunity to say "Thank you" to other people, and say it with so much meaning that the person looks right at you. Thank your way through every Thursday, and make "Thank you" your predominant thought, feeling, and words of the day."Thank you" - two words, inconceivable potential power, and all they need is you to put the power into them by expressing them.Thank you!"Excerpt from The Secret Daily Teachings
